I have an incredibly picky toddler, and my preschooler was also incredibly picky when she was younger. We’re talking well outside the range of normal pickiness – my oldest wouldn’t even eat baby cereal or applesauce until she was 15 months old. And it wasn’t for lack of trying. My current toddler is also fighting major battles when it comes to new food. So I was excited to review Food Fights: Winning the Nutritional Challenges of Parenthood Armed with Insight, Humor, and a Bottle of Ketchup.
My biggest take-away from this book was not a list of strategies to try with my picky girls, but rather an overall sense of healthy eating. Instead of focusing on just one particular aspect (such as a picky eater) it focused on healthy habits overall, including things like snacks, mealtime behaviors, starting solids, constipation, and more. So it’s actually a much broader-based parenting book than a narrow-focused one. I loved the authors’ writing style. There was a good sense of humor, it was written with a realistic, friendly tone, and it was helpful and easy to understand.
Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of the book to facilitate this review.
