I recently had a chance to review Motherhood Exaggerated by Judith Hannan.
This book is a good - but not easy - read. It's also somewhat unique in terms of memoirs regarding children's illness. Many other books deal with the grief and sorrow when the child ultimately succumbs to the illness. This book, on the other hand, explores the journey through the darkness of fear, and back to the light of hope and joy of survival. Even though her daughter - now a young woman - survived, it's still a powerful book, dealing with the emotions that a parent faces in her situation.
This book would be a good story of hope for parents who are facing a child with a serious illness; it would also be a good choice for those who know parents with a sick child, to help them gain greater awareness of what's going on in their family. I'm glad I read this book - even though it was difficult to read, it had a very uplifting end, and it also gave me a better understanding and stronger empathy for those who might be dealing with the situation.
Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of the book to facilitate this review.
