Consumer Critique: EMI Greatest Classical Music Collections

The label EMI Classics  is releasing a new series: The Greatest Classical Music Ever! There are 15 in all; I got to try out The Greatest Classical Music Ever! - Classical for Your Baby and The Greatest Classical Music Ever! 50 Best Classical Hits.

The series makes a great introduction to classical music for people who are casual listeners, who recognize music when it's used in movies but don't study it on a regular basis. They're the target audience, but even more serious classical music fans will enjoy these. My husband is a trained music major, and we listen to MPR all the time and enjoy attending concerts - we still find these to be great compilations.

Casual and serious fans alike will recognize the composers such as Bach, Mozart, John Williams (wrote the music for many well-known movies) as well as the artists - Itzhak Perlman, London Symphony Orchestra, and more. The recordings are available to download (The Greatest Classical Music Ever series on Amazon.com), so they're easy to purchase and add to your mp3 player. I like how the series is organized so listeners know exactly what they're getting. They're also an excellent value - $5.99 for each one, with most of them containing 50 separate tracks.
