Mealtime Magic: Crispy Green

I love getting to try out healthy food products, so I was excited to try out Crispy Green freeze-dried fruit snacks. The fruit snacks are made from real fruit and contain the fiber and nutrients of fruit - they've just had the water removed in the freeze-drying process. There are no preservatives, and no fat or cholesterol. They're low in calories too - for example, the package of kiwi has 100 calories in the whole package (although it says there are 2.5 servings at 40 calories each).

The snacks come in several varieties - apples, bananas, pears, pineapples, mangoes, apples & strawberries, strawberries, apricots, and peaches. If you've never had freeze-dried fruit before, the texture does take a little bit to get used to - it's not like dried fruits that have been dried in a dehydrator. But I love how lightweight and portable they are, and how much of a low-calorie snack they are. The only one I didn't like was the apricot variety, but I don't like apricots.

Besides eating plain and tossing into lunch boxes, you can also use freeze-dried fruit to eat yogurt dips, mix into ice cream, or add to cereal. You can also use them in a variety of recipes as ways to add a fun texture and fruit servings to dishes.

The snacks aren't widely available in stores yet, depending on where you live, so your best bet is to order online at the website.

Disclosure: I received complimentary samples of Crispy Green to facilitate this review.
