Healthy Habits: Mid-Year Check-In
For a lot of busy parents, there are things that tend to be in the "set it and forget it" category. But it's really smart to be proactive and make sure check-in on those often overlooked pieces of life. For example, one important check in is the Mid-Year Health Check-In. It's an easy, three-step check-in to make sure your family's health is on track:
- Plan: spend one night reviewing the previous year's health expenses and planning for the upcoming year (for example, orthodontic work, glasses or contacts, etc).
- Prepare: make sure you know the health resources that are available if you have to make a quick decision, including emergency rooms and urgent care, 24/7 phone lines staffed by health professionals available through many health plans, and pharmacy information to pass on to your doctor if something needs to be prescribed.
- Prevent: many health plans offer preventative services such as physicals and diagnostic tools, or access to dieticians and other health professionals - these can be instrumental in helping maintain a healthy life.
I think the prevent is where we're falling on the most - not for our kids, but for us. And it's not just physicals. Our health plan offers discounts on a variety of other healthy purchases, such as gyms, that we just don't take advantage of like we should.
Cigna has a variety of quick YouTube videos at Youtube.com/user/cigna that easily explain ways that consumers can get the most out of their health care plans, like the one embedded below. Feel free to visit the channel and look for more!
