Healthy Habits: Commitment Day

Do you make New Year's resolutions that often fail? Do you find yourself alarmed by the nation's health overall, with the rise in obesity rates - and the fact that for the first time life expectancy is actually decreasing? Or do you just want an incentive to make a health change in your own life, however big or small?

Commitment Day is for you - no matter what shape you're in now, no matter what your goals are. This 5K, on New Year's Day, is to provide an incentive to start making better choices. Produced by Lifetime Fitness, the 5K is taking place in over 30 cities all across the nation, and isn't so much a race (although some people will be running it like that) as a movement, a way to get you going, to walk, run, jog, or carry kids (that's what I'll be doing).

If you're looking for tips and a way to start moving (more), the site has articles about how exercise gets easier by the day and other helpful insights.

I highly encourage you to visit the site and join a 5K near you. 5K is doable for anyone, no matter what your fitness level, and you'd have almost a month to work up to it. For more information and tips, you can follow @CommitmentDaylike CommitmentDay, follow the CommitmentDay pinboard, or watch the Commitment Day Youtube channel. You can also save $5 on registration with code CORP5098. Children 17 and under are free with a paid adult (t-shirt $15 extra if desired), so make it a family affair!

Disclosure: I got a free race entry as a thank-you for this post.
