Last week, we went to an Earth Day celebration and saw a preschool nearby putting on a play - basically acting out the story in costume as the teacher read it. This would make a great weekend or summer activity - creating the set, finding (or making) the costumes, practicing, and then performing for friends and family.
One adorable book that would be well-suited to this (and would work for a group as small as two or as big as a dozen or more) is Cheer Up, Mouse!where the forest animals all compete with each other to try to cheer up a sad little mouse - when what he really needs is something much more simple. It's a cute story that teaches a very basic lesson that, unfortunately, too many people forget. The House that Lars Built has a great DIY Animal Mask Tutorial, but you could go much more simple with paper plates, colored socks, funny hats, or whatever you have lying around.
Have you ever done this with your kids? What book did you use?
