Website Spotlight: AllerMates

AllerMates, which creates allergy alert wristbands and carrying cases for asthma and allergy products, created an online community at AllerMates.com, in time for May’s Allergy and Asthma Awareness Month. The community has different options for Parents/Caregivers or professionals (doctors, nurses, etc). On the community, members can seek advice, post allergy-friendly recipes, ask medical professionals questions, and get support.
AllerMates Founder and CEO Iris Shamus says, “Linking up with other kids and their families dealing with the ever-present challenges of allergies and asthma, especially during May’s Allergy and Asthma Awareness Month, gives people an important resource and let’s them know they are not alone. Thousands of other families are coping with the same issues and the community helps them learn and share. Kids with allergies and asthma can participate with their parents too and will find fun and friendly tools, resources, games and education."
Among the many free features and resources on the site are: a physician and professional directory, restaurant cards, action plans, downloadable schools signs and lots of children’s activities.  AllerMates offers something for anyone who cares for an allergic or asthmatic child and invites all to register and share.

About AllerMates:
AllerMates were created by Iris Shamus, who sought education and alert products for her son after leaning he had food allergies and asthma. When she wasn’t able to find materials that helped him learn about his allergies, she created the characters, now known as AllerMates. Those characters then became products that alerted others to his allergy, while making him feel special.  AllerMates products are available at CVS, Kmart, Walgreens and other national and regional chains as well as at www.AllerMates.com, where parents can also find a wealth of educational information, resources like action plans and restaurant cards and an online community dedicated to parents of children with health issues.
