Pride and Joy is a new book written by Kenneth Barish, Ph.D. to help parents understand children's emotions and solve family problems. I don't think I'm exactly the target audience - I found that I didn't really have many of the issues tackled in the book in our family. Of course, my kids are just five and three, so that's too young for some of them to develop!
Despite not being the target market for the book, I still found it worth reading. Many of the techniques described in the book are ones that I'll keep in mind as my girls get older, in case issues arise. I also liked the emphasis on appreciation and empathy - things that many parents forget about when dealing with kids.
To get a taste of his writing and to get some tips, you can read his blog. Current entries include common parenting mistakes, bullying, resiliency, and communication.
