Consumer Critique: True North

When I first had the opportunity to read True North - The Shocking Truth about "Yours, Mine and Ours"I wasn't really planning on reviewing it. But then I did some research about Yours, Mine, and Ours, the 1968 film inspired by a book by Helen Beardsley called Who Gets the Drumstick?and was very perplexed that the description was "an inspirational story of survival and hope" and talks about abuse, when the movie itself seemed to be very light-hearted.
Reading about child abuse is never easy. Luckily, the author includes enough humorous anecdotes and descriptions about his own life away from his step-father that it's not too dark to read. It also includes some great moments of family healing at the end, which helps provide resolution to me as a reader as well. If you've ever seen the movie, it's definitely worth reading one of the children's stories.
