JumpStart® just released Madagascar Math Ops™, starring the crazy penguins of DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar franchise. The app enlists players for math-based missions, and joins two other JumpStart mobile games inspired by DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar franchise — Madagascar Preschool Surf N’ Slide™ and Madagascar: My ABCs™. The game is designed to create a fun and comprehensive learning experience for children ages six to ten. Players must solve math equations to help fuel the Penguins as they launch themselves off a platform to save their Madagascar friends, Alex the Lion, Marty, Melman and Gloria. The game has thousands of math lessons, ranging from addition and subtraction to multiplication and division for first through fourth grade math levels and three difficulty modes.
My daughter loves the game, even though she hasn't seen any of the films. I love that she's having fun with math (as a math teacher, I think any positive experience with math early on helps promote later math success). The math operations learned are pretty basic, and through repetition in the mission-based activities, kids will have an ability to perform computations more quickly, which will help their school work go more smoothly.
Madagascar Math Ops™ can be purchased for $2.99, and a limited free version will be available.
