The first day of school can be traumatic for preschoolers… children and puppies alike! That’s why children’s book author Ageleke Zapis wrote “Django Goes to School,”
a sweet tale aimed at easing the nerves of preschoolers and
kindergartners as they approach that important milestone. Now, with the
help of FamLoop, this tale has been transformed into an interactive, stress-relieving adventure for youngsters with the release of the “Django Goes to School” iPad app.
Zapis’
inspiration to write this book came from her dog, Django, and her
nephews, who were all in preschool at the same time. She noticed the
parallels between puppy preschool and her nephews’ classes. They were
all a little nervous, but quickly made many new friends. “I
thought children would be able to relate to Django’s experience going
to a new school, and that his experience might help them ease their own
worries,” says Zapis. “’If Django the dog can do it, so can I’ is the
message I want them to take with them.”
Django,
a Havanese, is comforted by his young owner, Cosmo, as the two head to
their first day of puppy obedience class. As Mom drives them to school,
Cosmo reassures Django, telling him not to be scared. Many of his
friends will be at school, and he’ll make some new ones, too (sounds
like good advice that Cosmo has heard somewhere before!) The pups in
class learn very important lessons from their teacher, Miss Stacey,
including listening and sharing. The young owners are there to
reinforce Miss Stacey’s teachings-- ones they’ve probably recently heard
of from their own teachers.
