Healthy Habits: Get Ready Get Safe

Save the Children is trying to raise awareness of disaster preparedness measures by state. They've released the 2013 U.S. Preparedness Map where you can see how your state is rated. Mine is unsatisfactory, and it's not alone - many others were too. The states are rated in four categories of plans: evacuating children in child care, reuniting families after a disaster, children with disabilities and those with access and functional needs, and multi-hazard school situations. Since millions of children are away from their parents during the work day, these can be critical in the face of disasters, such as school shootings, hurricanes, major fires, and other emergencies. Check to see how your state stacks up, and learn how you can improve its rating.
