Giveaway: House of Earth

Woody Guthrie is best known for his folk songs, especially This Land is Your Land. What many people may not realize is that he also wrote a novel, House of Earth.

Although creativity is necessary for songwriters, it's not necessarily a transferrable type of skill to novel writing - yet I was surprised by how much I liked the book. Set in the Dust Bowl, it tells the story of an ordinary couple trying to search for meaning and a better life, trying to create a solid "house of earth" and protection. It has the same feel as "This Land is Your Land" and is a realistic tale of struggle and hope.
