PSA: My Hurricane (Addiction Recovery Story)

For three years Debbie fought insomnia with the prescribed sleeping pill, Ambien. On Christmas Day, 1999, her Dad died of a sudden heart attack. The next year she started abusing the pill to avoid grief. She lost her job and most of her friends. She put her family through hell.
On September 4th, 2000, Debbie took 8 pills, went for a drive with her dog, fell asleep at the wheel and drove into a tree at 45mph. She totaled the car. No air bags. Broke her face up badly and had a plate drilled into her orbital socket to hold up her eye. She could easily have died. But she didn't... and September 4th, 2000 is her sobriety date.
