Soul Sustenance: Verses and Flow

A Philly-based student was recently named National Student Poet by the White House. The West African-born refugee Sojourner Ahebee was encouraged by her mother to "put it in a poem" when she struggled with fitting into her new American home. The young poet and her poem made it all the way to the White House, along with four other students, and was welcomed by First Lady Michelle Obama.

Just like in the case of Sojourner, writing is therapeutic for any life trial or celebration. Writing has been proven to build confidence and create individuality, self-expression and independent thinking.

Verses and Flow is a powerful show on TV One that focuses on original spoken word and music. It airs every Wednesday night at 9/8 CT. The topics covered in spoken word form speak to the relevant issues of today… poverty, current events, race, war, family, etc., in a way that provokes you to dig deeper.
