Consumer Critique: Green Golly and Her Magic Flute

Disclosure: I received complimentary products as a thank you for this post. All opinions are my own.

Rapunzel was isolated in a locked tower. A modern-day alter ego for Rapunzel, Green Golly, has a beautiful golden flute to express her deepest feelings and a life filled with music by the world's greatest composers.

Green Golly & her Golden Flute is a beautiful picture book with CD, based on the Parents' Choice® Gold Award winning recording by the same name, written and performed by Keith Torgan and Barbara Siesel. It completely rewrites the tale of Rapunzel, mixing in works by Mozart, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Gossec, Elgar, Bizet, Chopin, and Copland.

The story itself is fun, and really can be told on multiple levels. With my younger daughter, we just talk about the story. But with my older one, we talk about the music too - why different pieces fit a particular part of the book, what composers might be thinking about while writing, and so on. The story also comes with a new, innovative StorySticker app, which allows listening to the story and music instantaneously on a mobile device or computer. When you order from greengolly.com or eifrigpublishing.com, the book will be packaged with a free CD, as well.  CDs are also available separately for $14.95.
