Consumer Critique: Vitality Fusion

Disclosure: I received complimentary products to facilitate this post. All opinions are my own.

Vitality Fusion is a great resource for anyone interested in how modern and complementary/alternative medicine compare. Susan Shane, a licensed acupuncturist, has developed a cross-cultural fitness program, Exaircise, and in the book, looks at Chinese, Western and Ayurvedic (Indian) medical philosophies.

For those unfamiliar with the basics, she begins with a brief history, and then looks at founding principles of each, compares pharmaceuticals with herbs, explores nutrition and exercise, discusses the mind-body connection, and briefly introduces a variety of other alternative medical practices, such as homeopathy, naturopathy, massage, and more.

What I found most helpful were the worksheets at the end of each chapter. My sister-in-law is an acupuncturist, so I already had a basic understanding of Western and Chinese medicine, but it was also interesting to read about Ayurvedic concepts in health and medicine as well. It's nice that the book shows where the three can complement each other with a "mix and match" approach, as I think there's a lot of wisdom in many forms of alternative medicine, but also appreciate modern advances in health.
