We know we need to protect our eyes from UV rays when it comes to the sun, but did you know that your mobile devices emit UV light as well? Blue light was shown in a recent study to have a detrimental effect on photoreceptors. Overexposure can contribute to myopia and age-related macular degeneration. This can be especially concerning if you let kids play with your mobile devices.
Fortunately, there are ways to protect your eyes. The most basic is to limit exposure - but that's not always easy, since blue light comes from most technology screens (computer, tablet, phone) and even from fluorescent and LED lights. You can also be diligent about wearing hats and sunglasses while outside. There are glasses that contain UV filters (but aren't darkened like sunshades). You can also get screen protectors with UV filtering.
I recently tried out one from Interworks Unlimited - the Konnet Care Vision Protective Shield for iPad. The only problem we had with it was getting it on - like any screen protector, it's susceptible to bubbles as you put it on. But it didn't seem to change the screen image at all, and it's thin like any other screen protector, so it helps to protect the screen as well. It's a great option if you're planning on buying a screen protector anyway! You can get it at Amazon and AmazingStuffShop.
