Thrifty Thinking: Help for High-Stress Tax Situations

Did you know that there are approximately 43,000 enrolled agents in the U.S.? With so many tax companies available, how is one supposed to know which to turn to when fighting issues with the IRS?
Lee Singleton is director of the Gold Star Client Care department at the Tax Defense Network, which focuses on ensuring customers receive superior customer service at all times. Here are Singleton’s tips on what to look for in representatives specializing in high-stress tax situations:
1.     A sense of urgency. When dealing with tax related issues, time is always of the essence.
2.     Empathy. We deal with tax-related matters every day; it’s our job. But we cannot forget that for our clients, this will hopefully be the only time in their life they’ll encounter serious tax debt issues.
3.     Expect the unexpected. It sounds cliché, but when dealing with an unpredictable third party such as the IRS, you always need to be ready for anything.
