Thrifty Thinking: Think and Grow Rich for Woen

Sharon Lechter believes we are at a true tipping point for women, given the change in women's global influence in recent years. She recently published Think and Grow Rich for Women: Using Your Power to Create Success and Significance (Tarcher/Penguin hardcover; ISBN-13: 978-0-399-17082-9) with some amazing statistics regarding women's progress. In education, for instance, 140 women graduate for every 100 men. Women today hold more than 50% of management and professional positions. Also, not only do women start two out of every three businesses, they account for 46% of all U.S. companies, generate $2.7 trillion in revenues, and employ nearly 16 million people.

In the book, she shares her message for other women.
“Women must help other women succeed …Progress comes from momentum and rather than focus on what’s wrong with our systems and our policies, we should use the momentum we’ve already gained to push forward… Rather than telling women to be more like men, we should highlight the benefits found in female leadership that may be better suited for today’s business environment.” – Sharon Lechter
The book was inspired by one originally published by Napoleon Hill in 1937, Think and Grow Rich. In this new take, teachings are updated to reflect the modern financial environment, and adapted specifically for the strengths women often have.

The beginning of the book opens with several pages of statistics that detail women's progress. It then moves on to some key insights, a few of which I'll share with you here. Check out the book for even more.
- You must have burning desire. In this chapter, she separates the desire for money from the admonition to be greedy for more.
- Auto-suggestion plays a significant role in success. In this section, the impact of negative and positive suggestion is explored.
- There's a powerful "sixth sense" at play that women can learn to trust. Napoleon Hill called it "as near to being a miracle as anything I have ever experienced." Many people call it intuition. This part of the book details how to make it work for you.
