Soul Sustenance: A Long Way Off (DVD)

Disclosure: I received complimentary products to facilitate this post. All opinions are my own.

Even if you're not a regular churchgoer, you're likely at least somewhat familiar with The Prodigal Son - the parable about a son who turns his back on family, heads out into the world and lives a wasteful lifestyle, hits rock bottom, and returns to the father with open arms.

A Long Way Off is a modern-day prodigal son parable. While it misses some of the cultural nuances of the original Biblical retelling that add more meaning to the story, it hits closer to home with an updated setting that can be easier for young adults to relate to. The core message is still the same - a father's love, and the Father's mercy, have no bounds.

Although this movie had only a small theatrical release, it's still worth looking into. It's Dove approved for teens and up, as there are some adult themes and things that will go over the heads of younger children. There's also a preaching kit for use in a church setting. It has a talented cast with plenty of experience, so the movie is well done - especially for one that's not a mainstream release.
