Consumer Critique: ArtRage 4.5 (PC/Mac)

Disclosure: I received complimentary products to facilitate this post. All opinions are my own.

August 14, 2014, San Francisco, CA – Ambient Design, award-winning creator of realistic art software for Mac, Windows, and iOS, recently launched ArtRage 4.5, a major upgrade to their popular painting software for Mac and Windows. This update is free for all registered users of ArtRage 4, available for immediate download from the ArtRage Members Areawith a 50% discount for owners of previous versions of ArtRage.

Updates include:
  • 64-Bit Support: enabling work on significantly larger file sizes and canvases and at much faster speeds.  32-bit processors are also supported from the same installer.
  • Canvas Grid Overlay: to help map out paintings and designs in pixels or proportions, including “Snap To Grid.”
  • Live Pencil Tilt
  • Improved Font Picking.
ArtRage 4.5 is compatible with 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows Vista/7/8 and Mac OSX 10.6 or later. At $49.90, this would make a great gift for the artist in your life. I recently reviewed the mobile app and was very happy with the iPad interface ($4.99 on the Apple Store; also available for $1.99 for iPhone). I have to say I'm even more pleased with the computer interface. It's possible to make really detailed, amazing works of art - even for me, and I struggle with a real pen and paper! I love the "undo" button. Layers and blending can work just like a real painting would - and you can try a free trial at artrage.com.
