Healthy Habits: Staying Alert While Driving

This time of year, when it gets dark early, it can be hard to stay alert on the road. Here are some tips to help make sure you reach your destination safely.

- Take a catnap. Find a rest area and pull over for 15-30 minutes (longer can make you groggier).
- Get up and stretch. Just a few minutes of moving around will get the blood flowing and make you more alert.
- Talk to your passengers.
- Chew or drink something, especially something lightly caffeinated or with peppemint.
- Use the power of aroma. Citrus and mint can help revitalize the brain's senses.
