Healthy Habits: Heart Health Assessment

Did you know that more than 700,000 people suffer heart attacks1 and 795,000 people have a stroke2 each year in the United States? Bayer Healthcare, the makers of Bayer® Aspirin, has launched the ProHeart Path Tool – a new online risk assessment to help people calculate their risk of a heart attack or stroke in the next five years.

Now, more than ever, people are looking for ways to keep track of their health digitally – from wearables to a variety of health apps – personalized resources are needed and popular. To help people become proactive about their heart health, the ProHeart Path Tool calculates the 5-year risk of heart attack or stroke based on self-reported factors such as lifestyle behavior, risk factors and current medications.

With the simple input of a variety of risk factors, (i.e.  gender, age, height and weight, smoking status, history of diabetes, heart attack or stroke, family history of heart attack, current medications) the gender-specific tool creates a personalized action plan for starting and maintaining a positive heart healthy regimen. The individualized summary and action plan includes recommended lifestyle changes and tips for lowering risks of cardiovascular events, along with a letter that can be shared with a physician explaining the results. With the personalized action plan, patients are able to come to their physician informed about ways to lower their risk for heart attack or stroke and have a beneficial conversation about their heart health.
