Book Nook: Crafting Titles from Capstone Publishing

With it being National Craft Month, I've had a chance to review several craft publications. Capstone Publishing recently sent me some great titles to review.

Make It Gift It: Handmade Gifts for Every Occasion by Mari Bolte  There's nothing more fun than giving the perfect hand-crafted gift! From simple hostess gifts to fully personalized gifts for that very special someone, Make It, Gift It has everything you need to get started. Learn how to create one-of-a-kind masterpieces for every important person in your life.

Paper Artist: Creations Kids Can Fold, Wear, Tear or Share by Jennifer Phillips, Gail D. Green, Kara L. Laughlin
Paper is not just for drawing! Budding artists use paper to create everything from lanterns to picture frames. Simple, step by step instructions and big, full color photographs help readers maximize their potential.

Paint It: The Art of Acrylics, Oils, Pastels and Watercolors by Mari Bolte  Think you can make a masterpiece? It doesn't matter! Have a blast and express yourself in paint. Create with Color will show you the basics in acrylic, oil, pastel, or watercolor painting. Each engaging title teaches basic techniques through projects of progressive difficulty. Step-by-step instructions and timely tips encourage artists to explore their imagination.

All three of these books had some projects that were easy enough for my daughter to do, others that suited my abilities (I'm not spectacular with crafts either), and some that were above both of our ability but would be fun to try eventually (yes, crafts for kids sometimes are higher than I can do). I really liked the handmade gifts book, since I'm a fan of giving practical or non-commercial gifts. Paper Artist was nice because we have lots of the supplies on hand. Paint It really helped educate my daughter and me about the types of paints there are, and even though we don't have some of the necessary supplies like acrylic or oil, it was fun to try to replicate some projects with what we did have.
