I had a chance to review the album, which Hollens produced himself. It contains many tracks that fans of the movies will recognize, as well as contributions from guest
artists like Tim Foust of a cappella group Home Free and a
winner of NBC’s The Sing-Off, violinist and fellow YouTube star
Taylor Davis, plus musician and YouTube
vlogger Hank Green.
Hollens
is a talented singer, arranger, engineer, and producer who sings all the parts of each song, then
layers and blends them together. He began his a cappella career in 1999
co-founding the University of Oregon’s award-winning a cappella group,
On The Rocks. In 2010, the group was featured on The Sing-Off Season 2. Since then, Hollens has released over 100 digital singles and amassed 1.3 million YouTube subscribers.
Hollens
has performed in iconic venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center
and the Beacon Theatre in New York City. He has collaborated with some
of YouTube’s biggest artists including The Piano Guys, Lindsey Stirling,
George Watsky and Tyler Ward, as well as with Jason Mraz and Hunter
Hayes, and earned a seat on the YouTube creator advisory board. Hollens
is also on the advisory board of tech companies like Patreon, Loudr,
Tubular, which help creators in the industry.
