Book Nook: The Sleep Revolution

Most of us know that we should get more sleep. We know that sleep can affect our mood, our ability to function effectively, and our health. But a lot of times, we don't really let it sink in just how vital good sleep is.

In THE SLEEP REVOLUTION: Transforming Your Life, One Night at a Time by Arianna Huffington, which I got to review, a very compelling case is made for getting more sleep. The nice thing is the book doesn't preach at the reader - it's written from an I-was-there-too standpoint. The shocking anecdotes in the book are really a wake-up call for just how vital sleep is, and Arianna makes a great argument for the fact that getting enough sleep isn't just something we should do - it's something we must do, for the sake of ourselves, our family, and our society.

The nice thing is, though, it doesn't just stop there with why. It also shares the how. There are tips that aren't necessarily easy to implement (it's hard to break any habit) but are simple enough to remember. Not only does it help adults get more sleep, but it also helps encourage kids to value rest, to help break the vicious cycle of a society that involves trying to do more with less rest.
