My in-laws do folk and bluegrass music, and my husband really enjoys listening to it. So do I, and I was happy to review Born in the Deep Woods from Red Yarn.
The Deep Woods project is a trilogy, a song cycle that explores the roots and branches of American folk music. Educator Andy Ferguson came up with the Deep Woods to house all of the odd animal tales he found during his exploration of folk music.
It's a rich album to listen to, distinctively American in sound, with beautiful harmonies sung along with his wife.
The songs tell a story, which really bring the album together. Although it's part of a larger project, it stands alone as a complete work as well.
