That's the idea behind a new book I got to review, Hattie Peck: The Journey Home. This bittersweet book with a heartwarming ending takes kids on a journey through Hattie's egg collection, raising of her eclectic brood, and eventual farewell.The illustrations are charming, really evocative of the chaos of raising all sorts of different egg-hatching animals. It's a great way to expose kids to the idea that not all family members look alike, and that love continues even after a good-bye.
