It seems that today's world is becoming ever more shallow - focused on instant gratification, express lanes, and ways to speed things up. With all of this emphasis on a fast-paced life, it can be hard to really take the time we need to in our relationships to connect on a deeper level.
A book I recently got to review, Known: Finding Deep Friendships in a Shallow World, aims to reverse the tide. We are designed to have strong relationships with others, to cultivate friendships. As humans, we crave connection, and in many ways one good, deep friendship with another person is worth more than dozens of casual online connections or face-to-face acquaintances.
This book is well-written, encouraging readers to use affirmation and storytelling to make and keep deeper connections. With Jesus as a model for relationships with others, authors Dick and Ruth Foth make the case for strong relationships in a world obsessed with the fleeting fancy. It is an excellent read for anyone - those who are seeking to strengthen already solid relationships, those who crave a deeper connection with those around them, and those who are satisfied with their casual relationships and maybe need a push for something more.
I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.
