Kids want to belong, and so does the little boy in Lane Smith's There is a Tribe of Kids, which I recently got to review. He travels around looking at groups, learning about some of the collective names (common or uncommon) we use to describe them. By the end of the book, he finds a tribe of kids to share his knowledge with.
The illustration style is fun - it's a combination of sponge paint and line drawing, filled with details that keep the book full of discovery even after the first reading. It's a pleasant book, with gentle lessons about belonging and diversity, full of color and appealing to kids.
