Consumer Critique: Fairy Tales Hair Care

September is Lice Awareness Month, and as kids go back to school it's a good time to review lice prevention tips.

Two years ago there was a lice outbreak and my daughters' school, and quite a few families used the resources of a local lice removal specialist, as well as the information provided by her. For example,

• transmission of lice by inanimate objects is actually quite rare (one study found 0 lice on the hats of 1000 infected children)
• lice is not a sign of poor hygiene
• head-to-head contact is actually the most common way of getting lice (such as kids with loose hair working on a project in close proximity)
• permethrin-based products often don't eradicate lice (one study found only 53% of lice and 69% of nits killed)
