Fun Freetime: A Place to Call Home

Just in time for Mother’s Day, Acorn TV features the addictive Australian period drama A PLACE TO CALL HOME: The Complete Collection (Limited Edition) on DVD. Called an Aussie Downton Abbey, this limited-edition collection features special collectible packaging, with two hours of bonus features, drink coasters, note cards and more that mom is sure to love.

Created by Bevan Lee and starring AACTA award winner Marta Dusseldorp (Jack Irish, Janet King), A Place to Call Home is a sweeping romantic drama set in 1950s rural Australia and dealing with important social issues of the time: homosexuality, single motherhood, racism and the lingering effects of war. The DVD 20-Disc Set features all 67 episodes of 6 seasons, bonus behind-the-scenes featurettes and interviews, as well as exclusive extras including drink coasters, note cards, and more ($299.99, Amazon.com).
Gorgeously filmed and masterfully acted, this acclaimed period drama brims with romance and intrigue. When nurse Sarah Adams (Marta Dusseldorp) returns home to 1950s Australia after 20 years in Europe, she quickly becomes entangled in the lives of the wealthy Bligh family. Sparks fly with dashing widower George (Brett Climo, Snowy River: The McGregor Saga), but she clashes with his formidable mother, Elizabeth (Noni Hazlehurst, Little Fish), who enlists George’s devious sister-in-law (Jenni Baird, The 4400) to disrupt their romance. A Place to Call Home also stars David Berry (Outlander).
Called a “glorious streaming service… an essential must-have” (The Hollywood Reporter) on par with HBO, Netflix and FX with “well-written, beautifully acted and surprisingly compelling scripted television.” Called “Netflix for the Anglophile” by NPR and featuring “the most robust, reliable selection of European, British, Canadian and Australian shows” (The New York Times), Acorn TV has quickly become one of the top streamers and is commercial free. Acorn TV is part of RLJ Entertainment, which is a privately owned subsidiary of AMC Networks.

All six seasons are also available to stream on Acorn TV, which is available in a gift subscription for $59.99/year.
