With school just around the corner, it’s important to get students brains prepared to jump back into the swing of things before summer ends. Here are some fun and simple tips from the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago (MSI) that parents and caregivers can use to get kids excited and ready to head back to school:
- Experiment – Hands-on science activities are great exercises in creativity and problem solving. The Summer Brain Games program MSI offers free, online experiments with step-by-step
instructions, that are easily done at home with kids of all ages to prepare the brain to learn. - Read – Encourage students to read themselves or read aloud with them. Let children pick out their own books so they are motivated to finish.
- Explore – The Museum of Science and Industry has a variety of exhibits that are not only interesting but fun! From the Museum’s first ever exhibit dedicated solely to wearable technology, Wired to Wear, to the U-505 submarine exhibit which takes you on a walk through history and the Science Storms exhibit, there are plenty of options to get kids brains movin’ and grovin’ before school starts.
- Plan – Look for local events in your community. Whether that be at the local library or at a nearby museum, there are bound to be programs that will peak your child’s interest. At MSI, anyone can book tours or experiences from a multitude of options.
- Shop – Take your kids with you to pick out their school supplies for the upcoming year. They will be much more excited to go back to school if they are part of the process.
