Book Nook: New Books from Prestel

I recently had a chance to review some new books from Prestel Publishing

Yum Yummy Yuck by Cree Lane and Amanda Jane Jones
This board book, geared towards toddlers, is visually appealing, with bright illustrations and appealing colors. The book will resonate with parents who struggle with toddlers who put everything in their mouths. Delicious treats and yummy foods alternate with not-so-yummy things that still end up in mouths, highlighting the appropriate places (boogers in tissues instead of mouths, for example).

Taxi Ride with Victor by Sara Trofa and illustrated by Elsa Klever
This book for early readers is a funny, sci-fi inspired tale of everyone's favorite alien taxi driver. He's likable, but forgetful. The book incorporates everyday places with out-of-this-world themes like aliens, ghosts, and more. When Victor drops people off at the wrong places, readers learn about friendship and taking advantage of opportunities that come up, as well as being adaptable to change.

A Dragon on the Roof by Cecile Alix and illustrated by Fred Sochard
This early-reader book has a brave girl and a ticklish dragon who transform a house into a beautiful aquarium. This book is playful and beautiful, incorporating amazing architectural elements in Antoni Gaudi's Casa Batiló. At the end of the book is a little history lesson, providing background and context into the story.

What’s Cooking at 10 Garden Street by Felicita Sala
This early reader book introduces kids to foods from a variety of cultures. Everyone in the old apartment building gathers to share some of their favorite meals, including meatballs, baba ganoush, peanut butter cookies, spaghetti, turmeric, and more. Kids will learn about a variety of foods, including recipes and explanations of the foods. It's a great book to raise cultural awareness and encourage eaters stuck in a rut to try something new.
