Book Nook: 100 Ways to Be Thankful

Thanksgiving often gets the short end of the stick. Sandwiched between Halloween and Christmas, it's not as easy to market in retail stores, other than as a shopping weekend. So it's easy to overlook this holiday which actually cultivates a very important attitude - that of thankfulness.

If you're a family trying to encourage a thankful attitude in your kids, it might be hard to come up with ways other than saying things or writing thank-you notes. I had a chance to review a book that actually gives kids many more ways to express thankfulness and identify reasons to be grateful.

National Geographic Kids Books 100 Ways to Be Thankful is targeted towards ages 8-12. The title "100 Ways" is a little misleading - since many of the ways have several parts or pieces of info there are actually way more than 100 tidbits in this book. There are uplifting quotes, prompts to inspire action, ways to pass kindness on, and interviews with National Geographic explorers on ways to give back. It's engaging and eye-catching, great for kids who like learning or parents who want to encourage kids to learn a little more about gratitude and thankfulness.
