Book Nook: Survivors of the Holocaust

I recently had the chance to review a nonfiction graphic novel called Survivors of the Holocaust. It's a collection of true stories from six Holocaust survivors that went through such a traumatic time in history, all told in their own words.

The book is written for kids as young as ten, and offers an age-appropriate way of looking at the Holocaust and discussing what happened and what the long-term effects were. The graphic novel format is good for all readers, but especially works well for reluctant readers due to the short text chunks.

Not only do these stories help make the Holocaust more accessible to children, but they can also be a way to show the effects of family separation, persecution, and discrimination.

Included in the back is information on what happened to each survivor, a Holocaust glossary, illustrated timeline, and online resources for Holocaust education.
