This DIY crafting activity adds creativity without needing someone to be artistic and makes for an excellent gift. I had a chance to interview Elli MIlan about her interest in spreading creativity and sparking the imagination of future artists.
Can you share a little bit about your partnership?
Our partnership with Diamond Art Club is very exciting and we find a lot of common ground in our commitment to community. We both have created a community around creativity and art. They have a very loyal and devoted following and so do we, I think because we support relationships among our creative customers. During this time of uncertainty and periodic isolation, community has been really important. We really value the excellence and quality of both product and business practice that Diamond Art Club brings. We love that they appreciate our commitment to artist’s education and building of skill and having an outlet to express themselves.
What makes diamond painting a good pastime?
Diamond Painting is very therapeutic and relaxing. It relieves the stress that life often brings and gives creatives the satisfaction of making something beautiful with their hands. Spending so much time in details of beauty and art does something powerful to the soul. I believe it reconditions us and calibrates us towards beauty.
What about people who feel like they might not have any artistic skills?
Everyone has the potential for creativity and art. I believe we are all artists. Diamond painting, stirs the artist within us and gives us a taste for more. Skills are acquired over time and placing tiny diamonds, trains our eye and hands for design and beauty. Its a great gateway drug!!! Into the arts!
What are some ways parents and caregivers can encourage artistic expression in kids?
I think allowing kids space to be messy and free with color and artistic materials is number one. Parents can allow artistic discovery outside or in the garage or a special art studio with drop cloths. Art materials are more affordable and accessible than they used to be, so I think parents should convert some budget from maybe video games, treats, movies and trendy toys, to art materials where kids can explore texture, color, line, and scale, while expressing themselves. Kids should feel free to explore and try things and not feel like there is a right or wrong way to create. Kids and young adults should be taught to muscle up their right brain so they have a balanced mind which will give them the ability to question, think outside the box, and solve problems with confidence. Art is an incredible way for young people to build a positive self image and find purpose and destiny through creating.
