There have been numerous articles written about how employees simply aren’t returning to their jobs in 2021. They are taking other professional opportunities or all together leaving everything behind to focus on a new life direction. What we’ve learned over this past year and a half is that mental health and wellbeing are a top priority for employees when it comes to them deciding whether they will move on or not.
Nora Tobin, performance enhancement and executive coach, nutrition specialist and CEO of Nora’s Naturals coffee, discusses strategies that companies can implement to improve their employees' wellbeing and success:
Tip #1: Implement Pre-Recorded Wellbeing Breaks
With the extended experience of working remotely and increased reports of screen fatigue/burnout, companies have a new opportunity to create wellbeing practices that serve employees throughout their entire workday.
In addition to virtual workout and yoga classes, my team offers Mindful Moments with pre-recorded active breaks that can be implemented into any schedule of zoom meetings. The breaks are 2-5 minutes in length and easily fit into a series of back-to-back virtual meetings. The program allows employees to quickly change their state and shift out of the stress response.
Tip #2: Host Healthy Competitions
I have hosted a points challenge for several corporate teams that have been very effective in both building comradery and establishing healthy habits. Each employee can earn up to 5-points per day:
- Drink 64 ounces of water
- Perform 15 minutes of exercise
- Practice any type of breathing or meditation for 5 minutes
- Sleep for 8 hours
- Write down three points of gratitude each day.
Tip #3: Create Monthly Content
Since everyone does not have the ability to connect in person, monthly virtual content, designed to enhance wellbeing and performance, can be a powerful tool for both employees and client engagement.
I have been working with Marriott International’s global sales team for the last three years, and one of the most effective strategies we have put into place is the monthly newsletter. The content includes actionable strategies each month for stress relief, enhanced focus, strengthened immunity and healthy travel tips. The content serves as a consistent resource to the sales teams across 42 countries, as well as a tool for ongoing engagement with clients.
Tip #4: Practical Client Gifting
In a time when we are not going out as much as we usually would, clients likely will need less in terms of gifting. It can be very beneficial to integrate products into the client gifting programs that are practical for day-to-day use while feeling elevated and special. The gift can also serve as a way to support environmental or social causes.

A personal note and Nora’s Naturals recipe cards are included in every gift.
Tip #5: Monthly Live Streaming Workshops
While events have not yet come back in full swing, there is still the desire for teams to get together. Elevate the virtual happy hours by providing wellness workshops that deliver practical takeaways to meet both professional and personal goals. The workshops can be both interactive and educational. Our workshops include; Wellness Around the World, Coffee & Conversation and Fit/Fueled/Focused. Each workshop provides helpful strategies in a 24-7 workweek without sacrificing time or enjoyment. Option- invite the clients and prospects to participate in each workshop as well.
