Caring Causes: United Through Reading

Over 500 classrooms across the country will be participating in United Through Reading’s “Story Time with a Service Member” through Veterans Day. United Through Reading will select and send a video recording of a service member reading an entertaining and educational age-appropriate story to participating classrooms who requested to be part of the event.

The Virtual Story Time with a Service Member event is demonstrative of the organization’s steadfast commitment to facilitate the bonding experience between distant serving military members and their loved ones and members of the community through video-recorded stories.

“This important initiative is a fun, entertaining, and educational way for students all across the world to gain a connection to the men and women serving in the military,” said Tim Farrell, CEO, United Through Reading. “In partnership with schools across the globe, we’re enabling a unique bonding experience between deployed service members facing physical separation and thousands of students through the fulfilling experience of reading aloud.”

The event is also in support of National Family Literacy Month and Military Family Month, in keeping with United Through Reading’s mission to connect military families who are separated by facilitating the bonding experience of shared story time.

About United Through Reading

United Through Reading keeps military families reading ready, no matter the distance between them. Families stay connected through storytime video recordings and books sent to military families. These stories ease the stress of time apart due to military duty, maintain positive emotional connections, and cultivate a love of reading and early childhood literacy. Service members and veterans can record a story for their family at more than 200 United Through Reading recording locations worldwide, as well as on their mobile device with our free and secure reading App. Since 1989, more than 2.7 million military members and their families have benefited from the program.
