Music Minute - Kim Noller, Red Yarn, and Kelli Welli: Double Negatives

Award-winning Children’s songwriter, published author and composer, and music educator Kim Noller presents a foot-stompin’ hootin’-n’-hollarin’ song that kids will love and teachers may love even more. “Double Negatives” is a wonderfully silly song meant to educate kids on what can be a difficult concept to grasp. The lyrics may be hilarious, but Kim’s purpose-driven songwriting provides plenty of examples for kids to really get the concept and have fun doing it.

“A few years ago, I did a musical program with my second and third graders that was inspired by that old TV show, HeeHaw. I needed another song for the program — so I wrote Double Negatives in an hour,” says Kim Noller. “The kids performed it in two separate programs and parents and teachers absolutely loved it! It’s a fun way to show the silliness of double negatives and how they cancel each other out to mean the opposite of what is intended!”

When the time came to record “Double Negatives,” Kim reached out to the one-and-only Red Yarn, a Texas-born Portland transplant whose made a name for himself throughout the US with his wonderful folk-rock and American roots shows and masterful albums for kids, along with Kelli Welli, whose been called “The Pixar of Children’s songwriters” for her smart, unconventional, and often goofball approach. Kelli and Red Yarn both jumped in with a “Heck yeah!” thrilled to be part of it.

“I couldn’t have dreamed of a better trio for this song!” said Kim

To produce this song, Kim worked with two time Emmy Award winner Carter Green of Greenjeans Studios in Wellington, KS, after having worked together for several years, because she knew he could handle whatever fun or quirky ideas Kim might throw at him. They drew on some inspiration from old HeeHaw songs and had a blast in the creative process.
