Every season has skin care challenges, but winter can be particularly hard. Here are some tips from Waxelene to keep your skin healthy this winter.
Don't forget the sunscreen. There may not be a lot of sunshine, but the UV rays are still coming through. Be sure to apply SPF 30 or higher and reapply every two hours if you are spending time outdoors. This is extremely important for winter sport lovers. The snow actually reflects sunlight back much more than the sand or water of summer, so your chances of sunburn while playing in the snow are much higher.
Pamper your hands and feet. Be sure they're under wraps when you go out in the elements. Your hands have thinner skin and fewer oil glands than other parts of your body so they dry out quicker. Keep them covered, but always remove wet socks and gloves as soon as possible to avoid itching, cracking and other skin irritations.
Say no to hot water. It's a good way to dry out your skin. Applying water to your skin for long periods of time does not hydrate it more, and hot water actually removes the skin's natural oils more quickly than warm or cold water. During the winter months, keep your showers warm (not hot) and short.
Turn to technology. It's cold outside so you get warm inside with the heater on. This also means you and your skin are inside a home with dry air. Run a humidifier to add moisture back into the air.
Eat and wear with care. Make yourself a nice cup of green tea. Bake yourself a lovely piece of salmon. And snack on a handful of blueberries and nuts. Some say antioxidants and Omega-3s are good for your skin. And while that beautiful wool sweater may look warm and cozy, be sure to wear a soft cotton shirt underneath.
Waxelene is appropriate for skin care for all of these situations - after showering to trap in moisture, on a friction-related rash from a bulky sweater, on skin that's dried out from wind or sun, or for severely dry skin (you can even apply, then cover with socks and/or gloves overnight to really help).
