Parenting Pointers: Caregiver Background Checks

Here's another tip from the Association of Premier Nanny Agencies - be careful who you hire. Background check conducted by online services are typically not extensive and may not uncover potential problems. A professional background check, despite the higher cost, is recommended to make sure you're aware of even the minor issues that may turn up. It can also be smart to network - use a network of trusted friends to help you find someone. And always be sure to check any references you're given.

I really lucked out when it came to caregivers. Because I work from home, I was able to be in the home with caregivers, so I could be more relaxed about this issue. But if you won't be physically present, it's smart to be cautious for your child's sake.
