I am currently raising my children bilingual German-English, but last year my older daughter told me she wanted to learn Spanish. I didn't want to dive into a full curriculum if the interest was going to fade, so we've done inexpensive things like using apps and videos.
I've watched the Little Pim videos before with my 5-year-old daughter. She likes them, although they sometimes get a little long for her. It's a cute little panda that says words and shows them in authentic situations to provide context. I watch them with her, and it's surprising how much we both picked up from such a "simple" video. It's not designed to teach a great deal of grammar, mostly words and useful phrases - but for kids under 6, the target audience, they don't need a lot of grammar.
My older daughter already knows her colors, so I tried out the Little Pim Spanish Colors app with my younger daughter. She loves it. There are several features - it reads vocabulary in both Spanish and English to help increase understanding, there's a coloring book, and you can record your own voice for playback. After only a few times using the app, my younger daughter is now able to answer the question ¿QuĂ© color es....?
