Soul Sustenance: The Sparkle Box

Disclosure: I received complimentary products to facilitate this post. All opinions are my own.

Even though it's not Christmas yet, it's nice to think ahead, especially if we want to start a new tradition. And this is definitely one worth considering.

Jill Hardie, her husband and their two children began a tradition in their home eight years ago. Every year, they place a Sparkle Box under their Christmas tree as a gift for Jesus on His birthday.
Wanting to share the idea, Jill wrote The Sparkle Box to spark this new Christmas tradition within other families—one that honors the true meaning of the holiday. A Sparkle Box is included in the back of the book and can be easily put together by children as they think of their own gifts to give during the holiday season.

I liked this book. It's actually similar to a tradition my family and I will be starting this year (now that the girls are old enough) for Epiphany. We've done Operation Christmas Child boxes and different giving tree things all along, but we're going to start spending Epiphany as a gift to Jesus by finding a place to volunteer or donate something really special. In all the hustle and bustle of Christmas, it's easy to get caught up in materialism. This book (and tradition) helps focus on the meaning of Christmas.

Even if you aren't Christian, the tradition is worth celebrating. The world could use more charitable acts of kindness, and it's a fun way to celebrate what we do for others.
