I recently read a book with a unique take on the idea of positive thinking. Pam Grout recently wrote E-Squared, a book that not only claims that there is a benevolent force in the universe, but dares readers to prove it to themselves. She makes the following claims throughout the book:
- 1. There is an invisible energy force or field of infinite possibilities.
- 2. You impact the field and draw from it according to your beliefs and expectations.
- 3. You, too, are a field of energy.
- 4. Whatever you focus on expands.
- 5. Your connection to the field provides accurate and unlimited guidance.
- 6. Your thoughts and consciousness impact matter.
- 7. Your thoughts and consciousness provide the scaffolding for your physical body.
- 8. You are connected to everything and everyone else in the universe.
- 9. The universe is limitless, abundant, and strangely accommodating.
Each claim is following up with an experiment an encouragement to write your lab notes. Although the book is not specifically tied to any particular religion, the author does mention Christian themes periodically - yet is very careful to use general terms for the most part, meaning that people of all faith walks are going to be able to read and implement this book's experiments.
So....do they work? I tried everything in the book, and had mixed results. I already believe that there is a loving God as the driving force behind all that happens, and felt a little odd "testing" God in some of the experiments. Based on the book, my thoughts weren't directed strongly enough on what I was doing. But it was certainly an interesting set of experiments, one that I may conduct again in one form or another!
