World Wisdom: Retale Green Gestures

Environmentally-friendlyRetale, a shopping and saving site, is promoting its Green Gestures campaign to highlight small ways everyone can make a difference for the earth. For bloggers, a post about Green Gestures will result in a tree being planted in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation.

Even if you don't have a blog, Green Gestures and the German sister campaign Mach's Grün are highlighting the impact of catalogs and weekly ads on the environment. Each year, 100 million trees are cut down in the printing of these marketing materials. It averages out to 41 pounds per adult per year in the U.S. In addition, printing consumes 4.9 billion kWh of electricity, 3.2 million tons of CO2, and 188 billion gallons of water! Consider ways that you can cut down on the amount of junk mail you receive by opting out of catalogs and other direct mail campaigns.
