Book Nook: Gospel-Centered Mom

When I had the opportunity to review Gospel-Centered Mom - The Freeing Truth About What Your Kids Really Need, I was honestly expecting something other than what the book was. I assumed it was going to be mostly ways to incorporate discipline and relationships that come from a Gospel focus - more forgiving, more merciful.

Although it wasn't really that, I did appreciate the focus of the book. Instead of being focused primarily on discipline tactics, or even bringing the parent-child relationship up right away, she looked at our need to focus on the Gospel for ourselves. This is a message that is too often not heard - mothers often feel like they're not enough, that they can't do everything they're supposed to do. Instead of fighting the guilt, author Brooke McGlothlin tells us that we're supposed to embrace the truth that we aren't enough - but that God is.

It's honestly very refreshing to have a book that starts with that viewpoint in mind. Instead of trying all these new tips and tricks, she starts with a faith that is ultimately reliant on the One who is enough. Then she moves into relationships, stress relief, our need for Jesus, and how to maintain the peace that comes from being Gospel-centered.

If you're looking for a parenting book that is less about more to-do lists and strategies, and more about a mindset shift, this is a great read with a unique perspective.

"I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review."
