I enjoy the idea of adult coloring books. They make quick art projects, good stress relief, a filler for time in between activities, or a nice mental break from work. This time of year it's fun to have a seasonal option, so I was happy to review
Zendoodle Coloring Presents Keep Merry and Color On: 75 Yuletide Designs. These designs were upbeat, seasonal, appropriate for Christians and those who celebrate Christmas on a more secular note (some were even more winter-themed than holiday-themed). It even comes with double-sided coloring pencils (in the deluxe edition). Pages are perforated so you can tear them out easily, and the pictures are printed on one side so if you choose to display them you don't lose the artwork on the back.
I also love crossword puzzles, so I was happy to review
The New York Times Home for the Holidays Crosswords: 200 Easy to Hard Puzzles. These puzzles by Will Shortz are arranged from easy to hard, and have a fun seasonal color. It's a great activity over the holidays - and if you're anything like my mom and I, it can bring family members together to help solve puzzles, especially the more challenging ones.
WILL SHORTZ, puzzle editor of The New York Times since 1993, also founded and directs the annual American Crossword Puzzle Tournament and the World Puzzle Championship. He is the Puzzlemaster for NPR’s Weekend Edition Sunday. Shortz lives in Pleasantville, New York.
